FAQ's About AH-EPS:

Q: What is AH-EPS? (Acton Haptic English Pronunciation System)

It is a "haptic-video-based" system (of 134 video clips) that teaches basic English pronunciation and teaching strategies initially. It is the video version of "Essential Haptic-integrated English Pronunciation," an approach that makes extensive use of movement (gesture) and touch to make pronunciation learning more effective and efficient.

Q:  What makes AH-EPS different from other methods?

Simple:  Haptic-based, in-class pronunciation change and teaching strategies (what we actually say to each other in trying to help) for instructors and students!  AH-EPS focuses first on how to communicate better with learners face to face about their pronunciation. Using gesture+touch in any class, at any time, in such personal but professional conversation, is very effective at providing good models, assisting with correction and promoting integration of change into spontaneous speaking.

Q:  Who does AH-EPS help?

Students learn and remember pronunciation better.

Instructors become more effective at providing feedback on pronunciation.

Students manage their pronunciation practice outside of class.

Students become better at correcting their own pronunciation and using it in speaking and conversation.

Q: Why does AH-EPS utilize touch?

To bring together the senses for more focused learning.

Enhance attention and concentration by managing emotional and visual distraction.

Make kinesthetic learning more effective and consistent.

Engage more of the entire body and brain in the process.

Q: What is AH-EPS like?

The sign languages used by the deaf or baseball players, and “Tai Chi” moves used in martial arts or boxing.

Doing a computer or “smart phone” game. You learn by doing exercises with special hand movements, sitting or standing in front of a video!

Q: Who can use AH-EPS?

In ESL and EFL classes, by teachers who have little experience with pronunciation teaching.

In classrooms with students of all ages, and for personal pronunciation improvement by advanced learners.

By nonnative English speaking instructors.
